Introduction
It
is crucial that Health, Safety and the Environment are integrated within
other core business activities management because of:
-
The high cost of failures
-
Legislation requiring employers to assess and manage risks
-
Public opinion on risk acceptability moving against poorly managed organizations,
which impose excessive risks
- High
profile disasters, which fuel public opinion
The
seminar is based upon “Successful Health and Safety Management”
as produced by the Health and Safety Executive UK but not only, as various
topics for Major Hazards Sites will be looked into in more detail.
The
seminar will give a practical guide to Safety Management Systems and the
management loop associated with it including; Leadership and Commitment,
Policy, Organisation, Planning, Risk Management, Auditing and Reviewing
Performance. The course will also look at the different Safety Management
Systems and greater detail into Risk Management (including an introduction
to HAZOP studies as a technique for Management of Change).
In the United States and in Europe High Hazard Industries are strictly
controlled by legislation. An understanding of OSHA’s Process Safety
Management and the Seveso Directive will enable participants to link these
essential components with the overall necessity of a Safety Management
System.
